At Lakewood Smiles, we love to see kids!
And kids under the age of 3 are seen for free!
Did you know that tooth decay is the #1 childhood disease in the United States? Due to this, more kids are missing school, and parents are missing work to take care of toothaches. The good news is tooth decay is almost 100% preventable!
At Lakewood Smiles, we like to create a dental home for kids starting at the age of 1 (sometimes sooner if parents are noticing any discoloration or buildup on kids teeth).
There are so many pros to bringing in your children at such a young age!
At Lakewood smiles we take a child’s first visit very seriously. Our main goal of this visit is that the child has a positive experience. We talk about brushing, we count teeth, and we look at a large tooth model, and we talk about the food and drinks we put in our mouth. If the child is comfortable we look inside. If the child is not comfortable with opening their mouth for us that is ok! We know that it will take one or 2 more visits for the child to open. X-rays are usually taken around 4 0r 5 years old, unless the Dr. is concerned about something.
Establishing a dental home for your children is crucial. The first visit establishes your childs dental home and builds an ongoing relationship between the dentist and your family. This gives us an opportunity to guide parents on healthy dental habits and cavity prevention.
At Lakewood Smiles we want to help parents overcome some of the challenges associated with bringing their child to the dentist, which is why we see all kids under 3 years old for free. Parents do not need to be patients of the practice to bring their kids. We will see any kid under the age of 3 for free. We will do their exam, polish their teeth and apply fluoride when needed. If any treatment is needed it will be discussed with the parents and the patient will be referred to the appropriate place.
