How We Help Children With Their Oral Health
We take a child-friendly, informative approach to treating your little ones. Dr. Girgis and Dr. William help explain dental concepts in an approachable way, and emphasize the importance of proper dental hygiene.
We focus on preventive care at our office, and work to ensure that your children are always free of cavities and other preventable oral health issues such as gingivitis. By tracking your child’s health and oral development as they grow, we can also identify potential problems with the position of their teeth and jaws, and recommend treatment by an orthodontic specialist, if needed.
Six-Month Cleanings & Exams
Routine checkups at Lakewood Smiles Dentistry are essential for your child’s oral health. We recommend that you bring your child to our office for a teeth cleaning and exam every six months.
During this appointment, a hygienist will clean your child’s teeth to remove plaque and tartar, and Dr. William or Dr. Girgis will conduct a comprehensive exam to look for signs of common oral health conditions like gingivitis and tooth decay.
Dental X-Rays For Kids
Dental x-rays may be recommended for your child at an interval of between 6 months and two years, depending on whether or not Dr. William or Dr. Girgis believes they are at a high risk of developing cavities or gum disease. X-rays allow our dental team to look below the surface and spot signs of hidden oral health problems, and provide your child with the best possible care. We use the latest technology and safety techniques to minimize radiation exposure when taking x-rays of your little ones.
Dental Fillings
Fluoride treatments are typically done after a teeth cleaning and oral exam. In this treatment, Dr. William or Dr. Girgis will apply a fluoride-rich liquid to your child’s teeth. The fluoride helps attract minerals to your child’s teeth and strengthens the enamel, preventing further cavities. This treatment can even reverse minor decay (soft spots), making it ideal for cavity-prone kids.
